Chapter 1 - Whittle Faeries and the Buurn Folk
In the regions of our world where the weather is a little warmer, in the forests, on the
edges of forests, along country streams and fields, like small shining stars; the Whittle Faeries
and Buurn Folk would be working away, but are very difficult to see. Most of these species of
faeries are between two and six inches in height and they look very, very similar to humans.
Many, many thousands of years ago some faeries, including the Whittle and Buurn Folk were
related in a way to humans. Only now unfortunately, the faeries are really quite scared of
humans and the damage that some are doing to the environment.
Some of these faeries have wings and can fly while some of them do not. The faeries
with wings move so quickly that you might only see a tiny ball of golden light when they are
flying. A little I suppose like a firefly, but faster and brighter. The faeries without wings do not
consider themselves any less lucky as they still have the magical ability to disappear and
reappear at will. Who knows where they go to? Sometimes even they do not know where they
go, but they never fail to return. It might even be that if a young faerie is still learning how to
disappear, the mother will have to go looking for it and bring it back. I wonder, where do you
think they might go to?
As with most faeries, the Whittle and Buurn Folk are born in a very special way. When
two faeries meet and are very fond of each other, they may decide to give their living energy
to make a new baby faerie which is achieved in a simple but beautiful way. The two faeries
choose a flower they are associated with and then blow their physical energy into their
cupped hands, this is then mixed with energy from the spirit world and placed inside a flower.
Sometimes the flower may have to be persuaded to keep its petals gently closed overnight,
although the flowers do understand what is occuring. In the morning a new baby faerie will
appear from the flower. For the rest of the faerie’s life, it’s hair colour and skin colour will match
the colour of the flower’s stem and petals associated with at birth.
When the faeries are not working in the earth’s forest during the warm summer months,
you would find them in their village. It is not easy to get to these villages as you need to be
taken there by someone, such as a mole faerie. The mole faerie would take you down a small
tunnel from the world of humans to the world of faeries. This may be a perfect replica of a
village on earth before motor vehicles existed. You might see carriages made of gold being
pulled by mice or moles; moles are more popular as their eyesight is not very good, so they
follow instructions quite well! The village would be so clean and peaceful, with small cottages
of thatched roofs so very similar to cottages in the southern English countryside. Almost
everyone would be busy cleaning, doing chores, talking and a few of them riding and steering
the carriage. I imagine they would all take turns riding in the carriage and maybe delivering
nectar for food. What kind of chores do you think the village faerie would be responsible for?
The faeries use petals from flowers that have dropped to the ground, these petals are
coated with a special liquid they produce from their mouth. This process then allows the petals
to be wrapped around their skin for clothing and some of the petals are even used to make
hats. Can you imagine how pretty and colourful these faeries must be with their green clothing,
yellow hair, green skin and bright golden auras? Do you wish you could visit the world of the
Whittle and Buurn Folk someday?
